Our beautiful and talented friend Erin Martinek created the Miles for Max logo for us. When the idea of a 5k memorial run started to take shape, we knew we wanted something to represent our son Max. Our original logo (seen on the white shirts on the left above) had Max running in front of a double rainbow. When Max's little sister Laikyn was born 8 weeks prematurely in 2013, she spent 6 weeks in the Sanford NICU in Fargo. Erin came to us in 2013 and said that she had to add a little something...and that little something was Laikyn (our rainbow baby) running with her big brother Max.
The double rainbow they are running in front of is the true meaning behind the logo...May 21, 2011 Adam and I lost our son Max at 18 weeks. That day was also our wedding day. We had spent the previous two days setting up and preparing for the big day and had no idea how our lives would be forever changed. We did get married at the hospital on May 21, but we did not get to have the ceremony we had prepared for. One week after the loss of Max, we gathered with our families and friends to celebrate our marriage and thank those who prayed for us and supported us through the loss of Max. On the day of our reception, it rained for a short time and when the skies cleared the most beautiful double rainbow lit up the sky. This was the first full double rainbow I had ever seen in my life! Everyone was in awe and tears streamed down our faces as Adam's grandmother leaned over to him and said, "Max is here with you and he brought your grandparents too". It was as if God was wrapping his loving arms around us and telling us that we were going to be alright.
